BRING EXPRESSION To YOUR PAINTINGS With COLOR & BRUSHWORK!

Brushstrokes aren’t just a way to apply paint – they’re a powerful tool to add expression and visual interest to your paintings. In this class, you’ll learn how to use color, variety, and dynamic brushwork to truly make your paintings more expressive!

Melissa will demo three inspiring projects: Song Sparrow & Clematis, Woods & Roses, and Winter Promise. We’ll start with exercises exploring limited palette color combinations. This will result in a range of saturated and toned colors that work together to create interesting and complex color relationships in your work.

Melissa will discuss composition, and will bring photo references for each piece. She encourages the use of unique compositional variations, such as those found in her supplied references. You are very welcome to bring your own references, if you prefer.

Artist Bio Melissa enjoys painting nature. Her inspiration comes from travel, hiking, and exploring her local area, the great Northwest. She works in watercolor, acrylic, and in oil. “There’s a fascinating complexity in the weeds overlooking the river, or in the interlacing branches of trees. Through layering of both color and texture I seek to show this in my work.” Along with creating art, Melissa shares her skills and knowledge through teaching classes and workshops in watercolor, acrylic and mixed media.
