About

About Portland Art Guild

How did it start? It was 1969. Virginia Koch Swanson, who had dreamed of establishing an art guild in Portland, Oregon, founded The Portland Fine Arts Guild. Four years later the guild received non-profit status and has been serving the local arts community ever since.

Who are we? First and foremost we are an inclusive and supportive arts organization. Teaching and inspiring artists of all skill levels is our objective… not profit! We strive to provide affordable art classes to the community. We believe everyone, regardless of income, should have access to arts instruction.

What do we do? We offer art classes in a variety of techniques and styles and we host other events, such as art shows, open studios, and critique sessions in an enjoyable and friendly atmosphere. We rent a wonderful, large space for in-person classes as well as offering online classes that reach across state lines.

Join us! We are a 100% volunteer led organization. With membership you can volunteer to be part of our behind-the-scenes team.
