CREATE A SERIES: Drawing with Paint

Want to improve your drawing skills through a fun approach of using paint instead of traditional pencil? In this workshop, students will create a series of paintings based on cats, dogs, and/or birds, with reference materials provided by the instructor. We will cover basic drawing techniques for achieving proportional facial features, learn how to use line sparingly and calligraphically, and cover how to apply paint with restraint so we can suggest form without overstating it.
Artist Bio Christina taught high school art in Boston, Athens (Greece), and Portland for nearly three decades, designing and teaching courses in Art Foundations, Advanced Art, Painting, Illustration, Visual Communications, and Fashion Illustration. She has a degree in Art Ed from U. of Oregon and did post-bac work in Painting. Christina has participated in group shows at Blackfish Gallery and the Art Institute of Portland and was juried into the LO Festival of the Arts. Her work has won awards. SUPPLY LIST
Paints Acrylics: Bring your favorite selection of colors, including Titanium White (not Zinc White because it’s transparent).
Brushes Bring your assortment of brushes made for acrylics, including a tapered one with a good spring to it, something like this: If you have varied sizes, bring them along.
Paper Any of these will work:
– appx. 6” x 8” mixed-media pad (smooth surface is preferable), at least 110 lb. Strathmore makes both 110 lb. and 180 lb. pads. You can find other brands in art and craft stores.

Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pen – Black, Brush Nib This pen can work as a substitute for drawing with the tapered brushes, because you can get thin/thick lines with it.
The instructor will provide the reference pictures.
