Description
PAINT IT & FRAME IT IN A DAY!
Instructors: Sallie LaValley and Linda Low
August 18, 2025 10am – 2pm
Ready to make your artwork literally jump off the page? Sallie and Linda are excited to share this fun and creative project with you in this hands-on workshop where you’ll transform a painting into a framed, 3D piece of art! And we’ll provide all the materials, including the frame, all for a $25 materials fee! We’ll be working in gouache, a paint similar to watercolor, but known for its opacity. Don’t worry about drawing – we’ll have beautiful designs of the natural world (shells, starfish, dragonflies, etc.) ready for you, so you can dive right into the fun of painting. The instructors will demo the basics of using gouache. You will learn how to sculpt your piece, assemble it in a deep frame for a 3-dimensional effect, then you’ll be shown how to add the framing components to wire to your frame. By the end of class, you will have a beautiful one-of-a-kind piece ready to hang!
ARTISTS’ BIOS
Sallie grew up in Portland, and has always been interested in art, so interested that she received a BFA in Printmaking from Portland State University. Life continued and she put her art aside to raise her family. As her children grew up and she retired, making art became possible again. She joined Portland Art Guild in 2014 and has been involved ever since, including serving on several board positions. She has taken many art classes at the Guild and enjoys her return to the Art Community. Sallie enjoys working in all mediums of art and especially likes recreating pieces reflecting the theme “Things I Love,” (this includes landscapes, favorite things, and interesting objects).
Linda is a new artist. After retiring from the tech industry, she joined Portland Art Guild in 2022 and started taking many classes. She is most drawn to watercolor, but when introduced to new a medium or technique at the Guild, her interests may shift as she experiences new ideas. While her children were in school, she was a member of Beaverton School’s Art Literacy team for 10 years, where she created lessons based on historical and contemporary artists and guided the children through art projects related to them. Linda enjoys researching other artists’ work and applying it to her own style. She is glad to have become an active participant in the Guild, serving on the board, and being involved with likeminded and creative people.
