Take time out of your busy life at the holidays to sit quietly and to paint peacefully.
In this workshop you will create special artwork that can become wonderful gifts! Over the holidays it’s really fun to also use these pieces that are painted on rice paper to wrap gifts. We will start with painting warmups and technical practice for specific brushwork. We’ll use unique papers to try with Sumi-e inks and gouache paints.
All materials are provided by the instructor. If you have Sumi-e materials you are welcome to bring your own as well, and you’ll have a chance to develop your Sumi-e practice with the change of seasons.
Beginners are always welcome.
Artist Bio Nancy lives, paints & teaches in Portland, Oregon. Her education includes a BA in Fine Art/French/ Art History from Connecticut College; studying Plein Air painting and Art History at Parsons School of Design (Paris), and Pictorial Tapestry and Surface Design study at Oregon College Of Art & Craft. She was Artist in Residence at the Lan Su Chinese Garden and at the Hawk Creek Gallery. Both residencies were featured in Plein Air & Out Door Magazines. Nancy has extensive experience teaching art classes and workshops (drawing & painting, design, composition, color theory, art history, Sumi-e and has served as a juror for art completions. She has taken part in numerous art shows:
“100th Year Celebration at Schreiner’s Iris Gardens”, “25th Year Celebration of the Oregon Lavender Festival”. Currently, she has designed a NEW studio that will open at the end of this year!!!
