Description
ALLA PRIMA & INDIRECT PAINTING FROM LIFE
Instructor: Jessi Sevy
Dec 2, 9,16
10am to 2pm
There are two major approaches in painting: Direct and Indirect. What do they mean? Direct painting usually refers to a painting technique where wet paint is applied to wet paint in a single session. Alla Prima is an Italian phrase that means “at first attempt”. Indirect painting techniques usually involve applying layers of paint when the underlayers are dry to the touch, to build subtleties and further refine the painting.
In this class, we will experiment with both techniques. Painting from life is the ultimate way to train our eyes to “see” values and colors. We will divide into small groups to ensure everyone can paint from a well-lit still-life setup. Techniques taught in this class can also apply to other genres including landscape and portrait.
