Description

“Snow Scenes” January 20, 2025
10am – 2pm
Members $20
Nonmembers $40

This is a basic technique class targeted at beginner/intermediate level students. The only requirement is a willingness to enjoy art in a relaxed, no pressure environment. We will have a good time.

My intention for this class is to discuss and look at additional themes of perspective aside from one- and two-point linear perspective. Some ideas will include change of plane, arial or atmospheric perspective, contrast and value, color and temperature, size and direction. I hope to demo a small snow scene including a barn, to exercise some linear perspective.

MATERIALS
Paint colors
Pthalo Blue (or almost any blue you have)
Ultramarine Blue
Alizarin Crimson (or rose madder, or magenta)
Burnt Sienna
Cadmium yellow light (or any yellow you have)
Palette
Brushes
Small brushes, flats from ½ to 1 inch
Medium Rounds if you prefer, in size 4 thru 6
Larger mop brush for wetting paper if you do not have a 1 inch flat.
Small Script liner brush about a #1
Masking tape for borders
A small, pointed palette knife with an offset handle or an old credit card that you can cut up.
Watercolor paper. I work with Arches 140# cold press paper in 22”x 30” sheets. (I cut the sheet into 8 equal pieces for class demos and exercises which yields an eighth sheet size of 7-1/2x 11” or quarter sheet size of 11×15”). Any paper, tablet, or block that you have in small rectangular shape will be fine. You will need at least four small sheets.
A board to mount your paper on (unless you are working from a block or tablet).
Salt that you can pour into your hand.
Two water containers
A sponge or tissue arrangement for controlling water in the brushes.
Small spray bottle for spritzing water is sometimes handy
Tissues
Optional: Hairdryer
